FAQ & Help

Everything about buying and selling phones on Mobizo. If your question isn't here, the Contact page reaches us directly.

Getting started

What Mobizo is and how it works.

What is Mobizo?

Mobizo is a classified advertising platform for mobile phones in Sri Lanka. Members post adverts for new and used phones they own, and buyers contact them directly to arrange a sale. It works the way a classifieds noticeboard does — Mobizo is not a shop, does not own or stock any phone, and is not a party to any sale.

Is Mobizo free to use?

Yes. Browsing, searching and filtering are free and open to everyone, with no account needed. Posting an advert is also free, and Mobizo takes 0% commission on any sale. The site is funded by advertising.

Do I need an account?

Not to browse. You need to sign in with Google only to post an advert, message a seller, save a search, favourite an advert, follow a seller, leave a review, or report an advert.

Which areas of Sri Lanka does Mobizo cover?

All 25 districts. Each district has its own page — for example mobizo.lk/phones/colombo or mobizo.lk/phones/batticaloa — listing the phones advertised there.

What can I advertise on Mobizo?

Mobile phones only — new or used, any brand. Mobizo is deliberately narrow: it is not a general classifieds site, so accessories, tablets, laptops and non-phone items do not belong here and may be removed by moderators.

Buying a phone

Finding an advert and dealing with the seller.

How do I buy a phone on Mobizo?

Find an advert you like, then contact the seller through the Message button on the advert. You agree the price, the meeting place and the payment method directly with them. Mobizo does not take payment, does not deliver, and is not involved in the transaction.

Does Mobizo handle payment, escrow or delivery?

No. Mobizo never handles money, holds funds in escrow, processes cards, ships anything, or offers refunds, returns, warranty or buyer protection. Payment and handover are entirely between you and the seller. Anyone claiming to offer Mobizo escrow or Mobizo delivery is attempting a scam.

How do I stay safe when buying?

Meet in a public place during the day, and take someone with you if you can. Inspect the phone before paying: check that it powers on, that the IMEI shown by dialling *#06# matches the box and any bill, that it is not iCloud- or account-locked, and that the seller can factory reset it in front of you. Never send money in advance to someone you have only spoken to online, and be wary of any price far below the going rate.

How do I know a phone is not stolen?

Mobizo cannot verify this for you. Ask for the original box, bill and IMEI, and check that the IMEI on the phone matches them. A seller who refuses to show the IMEI or proof of purchase is a reason to walk away. If you believe an advert involves a stolen phone, report it and contact Sri Lanka Police.

Selling a phone

Posting an advert and reaching buyers.

How do I post an advert?

Sign in with Google, then use Post a Listing. Enter the brand, model, RAM, storage, colour, condition, your asking price in LKR, a description, your location, and photos. The advert goes to a moderator and appears publicly once approved.

How much does it cost to advertise?

Nothing. Posting is free, there is no listing fee, no promotion fee, and no commission when you sell. Mobizo earns from advertising shown on the site, not from your sale.

What is the AI price estimate and description?

When you post an advert you can ask Mobizo to draft a description and suggest a resale price from the details you entered. Both are AI-generated suggestions to help you start, not a valuation and not a guarantee of what the phone will sell for. You can edit or ignore them, and you are responsible for what you finally publish.

Why is my advert still pending?

Every new advert is reviewed by a moderator before it appears publicly. While it is pending, only you and the moderators can see it. Adverts that break the Terms — wrong category, misleading details, someone else's photos, or contact details used to push people off-platform — may be rejected.

Who is responsible for the content of an advert?

The member who posted it, entirely. You are responsible for the accuracy of every detail, for legally owning the phone and having the right to sell it, and for honouring what you agree with a buyer. Moderation removes policy breaches; it does not verify that an advert is truthful, and an approved advert has not been fact-checked.

What do I do once the phone is sold?

Mark the advert as sold or delete it from your dashboard, so buyers stop contacting you about a phone that is gone.

What is the verified badge?

A badge shown on profiles whose identity or business has been checked by Mobizo. Buyers can filter to verified sellers only. It signals that Mobizo has confirmed who the seller is — it is not a guarantee of any individual advert or transaction.

Account, privacy and data

What is public, what is stored, and how to remove it.

What information becomes public when I post?

Everything in the advert — title, brand, model, specs, condition, price, description and photos — plus the location you set, which places a pin on the map. Your public profile also shows your display name, username, photo, verification badge, any social links you add, your live adverts, follower counts and reviews. Set your location to an area rather than your doorstep. Your email address is never shown publicly.

How do I delete my adverts or my account?

Delete an individual advert, favourite, saved search or review from your dashboard at any time — removal is immediate. To remove everything, use the Danger zone section of your dashboard to delete your account: your profile, adverts, follows, favourites, saved searches, reviews, conversations and sign-in are deleted immediately and permanently. It cannot be undone.

Can anyone see my phone number or messages?

Messages between you and another member are private to the two of you and visible in your dashboard. Mobizo does not routinely read them, and may only access one to investigate a reported breach of the Terms. Mobizo never publishes your phone number — if you put a number in an advert's description, that text is public.

How do I report an advert or a user?

Use the Report button on the advert and choose a reason. Reports go to the moderation team, and the person reported is not told who reported them. Report anything that looks like a scam, a stolen phone, a duplicate, a wrong category, or an advert using someone else's photos.

How does Mobizo handle my personal data?

The Privacy Policy sets out exactly what is collected, why, which third-party services process it, and how long it is kept. It is written with regard to Sri Lanka's Personal Data Protection Act, No. 9 of 2022, which gives you the right to access, correct or erase your personal data.

Using the site

Accessibility, devices and support.

Is there a Mobizo app?

Mobizo is a progressive web app, so you can install it from your browser and use it like an app without visiting an app store. On Android or desktop Chrome, choose Install from the browser menu or the prompt on the site. On iPhone, use Share then Add to Home Screen in Safari.

Why does Mobizo ask for my location?

Only to sort and filter adverts by distance from you and to show what is nearby on the map. It is optional, the site works fully without it, your coordinates stay on your device, and Mobizo does not store them on its servers.

What languages does Mobizo support?

The interface is in English. Sellers advertise across English, Sinhala and Tamil speaking areas of Sri Lanka, and you can write your advert description in whichever language your buyers read.

How do I contact Mobizo?

Use the Contact page. It reaches the Mobizo team directly for support, moderation questions, data requests and anything the assistant or this page has not answered.
